A manga adaptation of Metroid was released in 2002. Nintendo-licensed Metroid comics had appeared in the past on the pages of Nintendo Power and in separate releases. This released marked the first official Metroid manga release. The manga was translated to English in 2009. An online flash version of the first two chapters, dubbed Metroid e-manga, appeared on the official Japanese Metroid site in 2002.
