Power Bomb Expansions, also known as Power Bomb Tanks, increase the number of Power BombsSamus may hold. They are one of various minor Upgrades, or Suit Expansions, Samus receives. The amount varies from game to game. They were first featured in Super Metroid, along with the Power Bombs.
In Super Metroid, the increase per Expansion was five Power Bombs. In Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission, however, the amount lowered to two per expansion. In Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and on hard mode of Metroid: Zero Mission, the increase was further dropped to a single Power Bomb per expansion.
Samus must use the Morph Ball launcher directly underneath the elevator Samus begins the game in. She must then use her Speed Booster to Shinespark (while in Morph Ball) up to a Power Bomb block. She must break the block to access the Expansion.
Samus must travel to the base of the shaft next to the Norfair Map Station, then travel to the base of another shaft. There is lava at the bottom that Samus must have the Gravity Suit to traverse. At the base of the shaft, Samus must shoot a hole in the floor to reveal a door, then travel into the next room. In this shaft, Samus break a set of Missile blocks that block access to the Expansion.
After re-obtaining her Power Suit, Samus must travel back to where she destroyed Mother Brain and shoot a Super Missile at the ground underneath her remains. The Expansion sits plainly underneath.
Samus must travel to the Space Pirate Mothership's bridge, then follow a Zebesian holding the Expansion. Eventually, she will find it resting on a pedestal. This is usually the first Power Bomb Expansion obtained.
From where the previous Expansion is located, Samus must travel to the right, then open a hole in the ceiling with a Power Bomb, revealing section above with the Expansion.
Samus must travel to the eastern entrance of the Space Pirate Mothership, then climb up to the top. Once there, she must lay a Power Bomb to reveal the Expansion.
Samus must travel to the glass tube that connects the Mothership to the Chozo built portions of Chozodia, then lay a Power Bomb to destroy it. She must then drop down to the bottom of the shaft, lay another Power Bomb, then proceed to the right. At the far end of the next corridor, she must either ascend using platforms, or Shinespark up to the top, where the Expansion sits.
Samus must travel to a room near an elevator to Crateria, then shoot the wall with the Wave Beam, revealing a Missile block. Behind the block lies the Expansion.
Samus must to a dark hallway near the room that houses the Ruins Test. She must then break into a new corridor with her Power Bombs, then travel to the top and open a hole in the ceiling with several Missiles. The Expansion is inside.
Samus must swing across a pool of magma with her Grapple Beam, then use her Power Bombs to blow open the wall on the other side, revealing the Expansion.
Samus must travel to the Warrior Shrine, then use her Power Bombs to destroy a grate on the floor. She must then roll through the hole the grate was covering into a small chamber where the Expansion awaits.
Samus must travel to the top of Phendrana's Edge, then swing across using a Glider and her Grapple Beam, to a ledge. The ledge contains a Red Door leading to the Security Cave, where the Expansion sits.
Samus must travel to the Dynamo Chamber, then lay a Power Bomb to destroy one of the two Mark VII gates there. In between the two Mark VII gates is a pile of rock made out of Denzium, which Samus must Power Bomb to destroy. The Expansion is behind the Denzium.
Samus must Screw Attack to the platform in the middle of the room, where there is a rock made of Denzium that Samus must destroy with a Power Bomb. The Expansion is hidden underneath the Denzium.
Samus must open a door covered with a Yellow Blast Shield to this room in either the Dark Forgotten Bridge or the Poisoned Bog. Once she enters the Putrid Alcove, she must use her Power Bombs to break a section of rock made out of Denzium, revealing the Expansion.
Samus must travel to the Great Bridge, then use her Power Bombs to break a rock made out of Denzium, leading to a tunnel with the Expansion in the middle.
Samus must travel to the Transit Station, then use her Power Bombs to break a glass wall blocking a Portal. She must then travel back and forth through a series of Portals, eventually leading to the Expansion.
Samus must travel to the Sanctuary Entrance, then use her Power Bombs to break a glass wall blocking access to an elevator. The elevator leads to a control switch that must be scanned with the Scan Visor, activating a "Vigilance" Class Turret nearby. Samus must use her Spider Ball to travel to the "Vigilance" Class Turret, then use it to shoot three things: an outcropping of rock by the door to the elevator leading to the Temple Grounds, an outcropping of rock near ground level on the right side of the door leading to the main fortress, and an outcropping of rock above that. With those objectives fulfilled, Samus must climb up the wall near the entrance to the Fortress proper on some Spider Ball Tracks, then use a Kinetic Orb Cannon to launch herself over to the other side of the room, where the Expansion sits.
Samus must travel to the bottom of the Main Gyro Chamber, then use her Annihilator Beam in conjunction with the Echo Visor to open an Echo Key Lock, revealing a Kinetic Orb Cannon. Samus must use the Cannon, then it launches her into the purple sphere in the center of the room, destroying the sphere and revealing the Expansion.
Samus must use her Speed Booster to Shinespark up to a ledge in the upper right corner of the Landing Site found in Crateria, where a door must be opened with a Power Bomb. Inside the door is a long corridor with the Expansion at the end.
Samus must travel to a large, orange-colored shaft with several Ripper, then exit at the top. In the next room, Samus must travel through the corridor to the other end, then shoot a hole in the floor and drop down, then go through the door at the bottom. She must then travel to the very end of the new corridor; the Expansion is at the end.
From where the previous Expansion is located, Samus must travel back to the shaft, then up to the top of the shaft. At the top is an elevator to Crateria. Samus must take the door on the left closest to the door to the elevator. She must then travel to the very end of the corridor, then drop a Power Bomb, revealing a hole that Samus must drop down into. The Expansion is at the bottom of the hole.
Samus must take the bottom right exit in a purple room with snowflakes in the background. She must then reach the high cliff and take the exit there. From there, she must travel to the very right of the corridor, then lay a Power Bomb, revealing the Expansion.
Samus must lay a Power Bomb at the very bottom of a large green shaft covered in thorns. She must then drop down the hole and go through the door at the bottom of the shaft, then travel all the way to the right. She arrives at a corridor with three Etecoon and must Wall Jump up the shaft up to the top. She must use her Spring Ball and Morph Ball to get through a tunnel at the top of the shaft; the Expansion is at the end of the tunnel.
Samus must travel past Grappling Hook blocks in the purple shaft, then lay a Power Bomb to break a hole open in the wall. She must then travel to the left to discover a hidden chamber. At the left of the chamber is a Super Missile Block that blocks access to the Expansion.
After the end of Crocomire and the acquisition of the Grappling Beam, Samus must to the left of Crocomire's lair. From there, Samus must reach the upper left door, where the Expansion sits waiting.
Samus must travel to the entrance to Ridley's chamber within Norfair, then lay a Power Bomb, breaking open the entrance to Ridley's lair and the entrance to the chamber where the Expansion sits also.
Samus must travel to an underground chamber beneath a sandpit, then travel up to the upper right corner of the chamber; the Expansion is up there. No items are needed to reach this Expansion, but the Spring Ball and Space Jump help greatly.
